I am bursting at the seams to put photos from the birth project on this site. So far no publish date, but I am guessing sometime in July.

So instead I am putting one of my other favorite photos here. I have been photographing so many births, I figured a birthday photo would be fitting:

Birthdays are funny things to celebrate. It’s truly fulfilling the fantasy that the world revolves around me. I mean, revolves around the individual. It’s a holiday all about the person whose birthday it is. And they get to celebrate sometimes twice if their birthday falls on a weekday. Because, of course, something must be done on the actual day, but not everyone can attend since they have to work the next day. So you have ANOTHER one on the weekend. And maybe even another when you see a friend that lives out of town, and you say “well, it was my birthday 2 and half months ago, and you were in Pennsylvania, so you owe me a drink.”  And then, if you are like the news reporter I recently met, you keep track of your half birthdays and do a little something on them. A little half something. But at the moment that you were actually born, people were happier than they ever will be at any of your future birthday parties. And maybe there was a photojournalist present.
